Violence stalks streets of Karachi

As many as twelve people, including caretaker of a shrine, were killed and three others injured in different violence incidents in the city on Saturday.

Three persons were shot and injured when unknown armed men opened fire on them near Nasir Jump in Korangi within the limits of Zaman Town police station. They were shifted to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC) for treatment where they succumbed to injuries.

Zaman Town Station House Officer (SHO)Asadullah Mangi said unknown armed bike riders opened fire on Nazar Shah Shrine near Nasir Jump area. As a result, three persons Zakir Hussain Shah, 50, son of Irshad Hussain Shah; Nawaz, 45, and Younus, 35, were shot dead. He said Zakir Hussain Shah was administrator of the shrine.

Separately, two persons, Shakeel, 35, and Asif, 28, were shot dead by unidentified armed men at Drigh Road along Shahrah-e-Faisal. The bodies were shifted to JPMC for medico-legal formalities.

In another incident of firing, six people were killed when unknown armed men opened fire on Malik Agha Hotel along Superhighway. They were shifted to a nearby private hospital. The identities of the victim could not be ascertained yet. A man was gun downed by unknown armed men at Bilal Colony in Korangi. The body was shifted to JPMC for an autopsy. A youth, Umer, 22, son of Ameeruddin, was injured when unidentified gunmen opened fire on him in Junejo Colony, Sohrab Goth. The injured was rushed to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital (ASH) for treatment.

Mehtab, 50, son of Wazir Khan, was injured when unidentified assailants opened fire on him in Rasheedabad, Baldia Town. The injured was taken to CHK for medical treatment.

Meanwhile, one Asghar Ali Shah, 35, son of Wali Muhammad Shah, was shot and injured on resisting a robbery bid near Matriculation Board Office in North Nazimabad. The injured was shifted to ASH for treatment.

SUPARCO DG KIDNAPPED, RELEASED ON SUPER HIGHWAY: Unidentified armed men kidnapped SUPARCO Director General Muhammad Shafique from Gulshan-e Iqbal and released him on Super Highway after snatching his official car on Saturday.

The incident took place near Baitul Mukarram Masjid in Gulshan-e Iqbal within the precincts of Aziz Bhatti Police station.

The car snatcher held SUPARCO DG on gun point when he was busy in buying household stuff from a shop. The perpetrators got into his. As they reached Sohrab Goth, they released him but took away his official white colour Toyota Corolla bearing registration number GP-8188.

On the complaint of SUPARCO DG, Aziz Bhatti Police registered a case. Efforts were underway to locate his car through online tracking system but no success was made till filing of this report.
