Urges investment in livestock and agriculture sector to alleviate unemployment and poverty

Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif said Saturday that Pakistan gives great importance to relations with Australia and there is a need to promote trade cooperation between the two countries, suggesting that Australian investors invest in the halal food industry as Punjab is a big market of livestock and halal food.

In a meeting with Pakistani High Commissioner designate to Australia Naila Chohan, Shahbaz discussed matters of mutual interest and promotion of Pak-Australia relations.

Shahbaz said that Chohan should play her due role for motivating Australian companies to invest in halal food.

The CM said that national economy can be strengthened on sound footings through promotion of livestock and agriculture. He said that livestock and agriculture sectors are of vital importance in the economy. He said that unemployment and poverty can be reduced by promoting both these sectors. Shahbaz said that Punjab government has evolved an effective strategy for the promotion of livestock in the province.

He said that solid measures have been taken for the welfare of farmers and development of agriculture sector. He said that loans are being provided to livestock breeders on soft terms. He said that Australia can enhance cooperation in livestock and agriculture sectors. The CM said that a very conducive atmosphere has been created for investment in Punjab and special incentives are being provided to investors for investment in various sectors.

He said that Punjab Investment Board is playing a very important role for the promotion of investment and resolution of problems of investors.
