Khan dares Sharif to call re-election in KP

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan said Friday that he would hold an immediate re-election in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) and secure double the amount of votes if the government succeeds in gathering as many as one-tenth the number of PTI supporters in Peshawar and get them to chant ‘Go Imran Go’.

Addressing the participants of the PTI sit-in in Islamabad, Khan said he would rather die than accept the current system.

“They tell us we (PTI protesters) are making unconstitutional demands. I ask you Nawaz Sharif, what law prevents common people from protesting peacefully?” he asked.

“Under what law have you blocked the roads by placing containers?” Khan asked the rulers.

Challenging his opponents, Khan said that he will call a re-election in KP if Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), Awami National Party (ANP), Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) and Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) manage to gather as many as 10 percent of the people of the ‘Azadi’ march in front of KP provincial assembly, where a PTI-led government is in place.

“You gather people in front of KP Assembly on Sunday and I will call a re-election on Monday,” Khan threw in the gauntlet, adding that he will win with double the number of votes he secured in general election 2013.

Khan told the ‘Azadi’ march participants that real power lies with the people.

Urging people to participate in jihad, Khan said, “Jihad means standing up to the oppressor and it is our duty.”

The PTI chief claimed that 40 percent of Pakistanis face malnutrition while PM Nawaz Sharif is enjoying a luxurious lifestyle.

Calling the PM “Mughal-e-Azam”, Khan said that Sharif is using people’s money to live a luxurious life.

“Congrats to Pakistanis who have refused to accept this system,” he said.

Lamenting US endorsement of general elections 2013 Khan said, “Let me tell you how transparent these elections were.

“60,000 to 70,000 of the votes casted are unidentifiable,” alleged Khan, adding that if such a situation arose in US, the people of US would have rejected the election.

Meanwhile, in an interview with BBC, Khan said he is willing to talk to the government but he and his party members could not expect a government that has come to power after rigging the elections to ensure justice.

The PTI chief called for the formation of a caretaker government — composed of non-political people — which can implement electoral reforms and call fresh elections.

The PTI chairman said that the Supreme Court could order the formation of the caretaker government in response to a question as to whether the army was going to implement these changes.

“We do not accept an investigative commission which has members of the government in its ranks,” Khan said.

He said PM Sharif does not want to resign because he is worried about his businesses in the country and is afraid of getting exposed.
