Govt for no role of students’ political wings in colleges

The Sindh government has asked political parties to end interference in government colleges across Sindh so that the education standards could be improved in the province.

The initiative was taken by chief ministers’ coordinator on inquiries Haji Muzzafar Shujra after a meeting with Director General Colleges Sindh and Director Colleges Karachi at his office. The meeting considered on the ways to improve attendance in government colleges so that education standards could be improved in the province.

The letters were sent to several political parties including Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM), Jamaat-i-Islami, Pakistan People’s Party, Pakistan Muslim League-Functional, Awami National Party, Jeay Sindh Qaumi Mahaz and others.

The letter asked political parties to stop their student outfits from harassing students and to ensure positive education atmosphere in the colleges. Shujra also asked political parties to join hands with each other to improve education facilities in the province so that the Sindh students could also raise education standards at par with other provinces.

He also warned of taking strict action against all those people who would harass students and create disruptions in proving better atmosphere for education in the province.

Presiding over the meeting, Shujra expressed his dissatisfaction over the attendance in government colleges and said that attendance of students and teachers should be ensured at every government college. The chief minister inspection team (CMIT) will conduct raid in different colleges and strict action will be taken against absent teachers and students, he said.

The DG colleges told the meeting that political interference in colleges had affected the attendance of teachers and students. He said a letter had been written to several college principals in the province to ensure attendance of students and teachers. Shujra also directed DG colleges to submit his report every month regarding attendance in various colleges.

  1. Its been pretty good sign but it will not help them a lot if they would only announces, but they do not practically examine all those policies for any of the sector. So, local authorities as well as government bodies must need to reflect all the needs in this regard.
