Freedom of expression and speech are perhaps one of the healthiest fruits of democracy. In all civilised democratic countries throughout the world this freedom has been included in the fundamental rights of the citizens. In the similar spirit, the Constitution of Pakistan also ensures this right to all Pakistanis. However, in the ongoing political show in Islamabad this right has been overused, abused and maltreated by the protesting political leadership. The political discourse hit the lowest standards of political speech and general etiquettes of address. Imran Khan didn’t even spare the civil servants and administration in his rude speech spree. Another point to this aspect which needs at least a thought is that once again our electronic media played a role of mechanical provider of the events instead of using their journalistic and editorial sensibilities and abilities.
