The legal fraternity in the city boycotted the work at Sindh High Court (SHC) and subordinate courts in support of democracy and against sit-ins staged by the Pakistan Tehreek Insaf (PTI) and the Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT) in the capital city.

At the request of Pakistan Bar Council, Sindh Bar Council (SBC) and SHC Bar Association, the SHC chief justice suspended the work at the SHC. However, the judges were asked to take up urgent matters in their chambers.

A day earlier, Mehmoodul Hassan, member SBC announced that legal proceedings on Thursday will remain suspended in the province to express solidarity with the parliament and democratic system. Following the call, lawyers did not appear in courts to pursue their cases. Litigants who had come to attend the proceedings seemed perturbed as another day was lost in boycott and their cases were adjourned without hearing. Besides, the strike added to the backlog of cases as more than 2,000 cases were being listed for hearing which could not be taken up on Thursday.
