A constitutional petition was submitted in the Supreme Court on Monday against the ‘Azadi March’ of Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI).

Islamabad District Courts Bar Association President Shafqat Chauhan, in the application, requested the court to prevent PTI chief Imran Khan and his supporters from entering the Red Zone area in the federal capital with their unconstitutional demands and actions.

The country could not afford protests in the present scenario, said the petitioner, adding that non-democratic forces were trying to justify extra-constitutional measures. He said Khan had obtained permission to hold rally in a special area, but he might budge from his words by entering the Red Zone.

The petitioner said both the Azadi and Dr Tahirul Qadri’s ‘revolution’ marches should be prevented from entering the Red Zone area. He also said the country’s economic system had been paralysed due to the sit-ins.
