Punjab Minister for Excise, Taxation and Finance Mujtaba Shujaur Rehman has said that government has adopted the policy of computerisation and e-technology in government affairs and encouraging results are being witnessed, especially in the recovery of taxes.
He said that the system of online payment of taxes is also being introduced.
He said that property, token and services taxes are the major source of income of the government and modern computerised technology is being introduced for improving the system of receipt of taxes, adding that good governance and elimination of corruption is the mission of Punjab government.
Addressing party workers, Rehman said that in order to achieve Millennium Development Goals (MDGs), Rs2 billion have been reserved for the current fiscal year.
He said that the government has provided record funds to health and education sectors.
He said that Rs 274 billion, which is 26.25 percent of the total budget of Punjab, have been provided for imparting modern education to students.
The minister said that by increasing the health budget to Rs121.8 billion, the present government has ensured modern health facilities and free medicines for the poor and resource-less people.
He said that people of rural and remote areas are also being provided treatment facilities through mobile health units and Rs1 billion has been provided for this purpose. He said that Rs47.44 billion will be spent on treatment facilities and up-gradation of hospitals during the current financial year.
