CM indebted to US for support in uplift projects

Sindh Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah has said that the Sindh government is keenly interested to improve the infrastructure and enhance the capacity-building of health and education sector and 100 per cent development budget of these sectors has been increased this financial year.

The chief minister also lauded the valuable contribution of US government in this regard and said by this gesture and cooperation the old bilateral and friendly relations would further strengthen both sides.

He observed this while addressing ground-breaking ceremony of maternity ward, being constructed with USAID at Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC) on Monday as chief guest.

The chief minister said the United States was friend of Pakistan and it was not only this project which was being constructed with USAID of $6million but already completed the construction of Gynae Ward at JPMC with aid of $ 3.4 million. Besides, he said, the US was spending $387million to implement maternal and child health (MCH) four-year programme which would be completed in 2018.

The CM lauded the services of US Consul General Michael Dodman for projects in health, education and sanitation being funded by the United States which also include construction of Jacobabad Hospital at the cost of $10 million, construction of 120 beautiful schools at total cost of $165million and implementation on the municipal services delivery programme with financial aid of $66million.

He said that JPMC was an important hospital of Pakistan and people from all the four provinces were getting benefit from it. He said the Sindh government had always encouraged the capacity-building of the health and education department and the project which was completed or being completed with USAID would prove as instrumental sources for catering the needs of ailing people.

Later, the chief minister while talking the media men said that after 9/11 they were experiencing menace of terrorism and insurgency like situation because of wrong policies of dictators’ rule in Pakistan. He said the Pak Army was fighting terrorists in North Waziristan but it would take time to eliminate terrorism completely from the country.
