85 terrorists killed, 32 arrested since Jan 2014

The Sindh police have killed 85 suspected terrorists and arrested 32 others in 2,118 encounters across the province since January this year.

This was informed at a meeting of the DIGs of Sindh police range presided over by IG Police Sindh Ghulam Haider Jamali through video conference on Tuesday. The meeting reviewed the overall performance of the police in the backdrop of law and order situation in the province. The IGP directed all the sections of police department to discharge their official responsibilities with coordination to curb crimes in the society.

It was also informed that 296 alleged dacoits were killed and 7,389 others taken into custody, while five extortionists were eliminated and 177 held. Besides, 20 kidnappers were killed and 55 arrested. A total 3,199 proclaimed offenders and 19,460 absconders were also arrested.

The police during the aforesaid period recovered from the accused four G-3 rifles, 295 SMG/ Kalashnikovs, 611 repeaters, 116 shot guns/rifles, 6422 pistols/ revolvers, 15 bombs, 16 rocket launchers, 377 hand grenades, eight IEDs, 11 suicide jackets and 517kgs explosive material.

The IGP, taking cognisance of the difficulties faced by police in discharge of their duties, directed all the DIGs to immediately send him practicable recommendations in this regard.

He called for making intelligence network more effective to get prior information to cope with activities of terrorists and criminals. Ghulam Haider Jamali said that effective and coordinated measures should be taken through pro-active policing to protect the life and property of the people and to ensure the security of sensitive installations and foreign missions.

He also called for making the security of public places fool-proof at every level in coordination with the Rangers.
