The Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) deputy general secretary and senator, Raza Rabbani, on Sunday said the PPP and other political groups were ready to mediate between the Pakistan Tehrik-i-Insaf (PTI), Pakistan Awami Tehrik (PAT) and Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) government.

Speaking at a seminar entitled Zulfikar Ali Bhutto and Islamic World organised by the Sindh People’s Youth (SPY) at Arts Council, Rabbani said that dialogue is the beauty of democracy, so two sides should initiate dialogue with each other to end the political crisis.

He said the PPP had covered a long distance and had given several sacrifices to bring democracy in the country. They had sacrificed their leaders in this journey, therefore, they would not allow anyone to derail democracy in the country, he said.

Rabbani said the PPP would never support any unconstitutional bid to remove democracy. He said Pakistan was acquired through many sacrifices and if democracy was derailed this time, it would not be a danger to the constitution but sovereignty of the country.

Speaking on the occasion, Sindh Chief Minister Qaim Ali Shah said those who claimed to be representatives of youth in the country should first give sacrifice for democracy. The PPP youth had given sacrifice for the country and would continue to do so in future, he said. After Zulfikar Ali Bhutto and Benazir Bhutto, Bilwal Bhutto Zardari was the only real representative of youth, he said.

He said Asif Ali Zardari had proposed two plans for resolving the political crisis in the country and Opposition Leader in National Assembly Khursheed Shah would convey those plans to both sides.

Shedding light on the life of Zulfikar Ali Bhutto, Shah said Bhutto united the Islamic world and proposed Arab world to use their oil as weapon. Bhutto’s proposal not only gave strength to the Muslim world but also forced the West to recognise Muslims as a force, he said.

Opposition Leader in National Assembly Khursheed Shah said the PPP believed in the policy of reconciliation and democracy as the best revenge. These two principles were taught by Benazir Bhutto and they were trying to convince political parties to adopt this principle for betterment of democracy in the country, he said.

He said Pakistan was of great importance for the Muslim nations and their eyes were on Pakistani leaders. He said the Muslim world was eyeing towards Pakistan for support in this difficult situation. The entire Muslim ummah was facing a crisis and it was the responsibility of Pakistani rulers to call for OIC meeting and unite the Muslim world, he said.

He said Pakistan should play its role for oppressed Palestinians and should follow the footsteps of Bhutto. He said the current rulers should work for the unity and harmony of Muslims worldwide without taking sides of anyone. He said political parties should also pursue the government to raise voice for the Palestinians.

PPP Sindh General Secretary Taj Haider said Bhutto had opposed extremism and now both forces had targeted the Muslim world to deprive them of their resources and their lands.

Religious extremists were weakening all those forces who had the power to challenge Israel, he said, adding that current leaders of the country were brought to power by imperialistic forces and they would not raise voice against the Israeli aggression and it was now responsibility of people to raise their voice against Israel.

  1. the biggest sacrifice. on the part of those who claim to representative of anyone including youth, is no laudering out, not evaded taxes, no written off loans. Getting killed in a bomb blast & leaving families behind with millions of stolen dollars, does not help the nation, the public. The real sacrifice is strong personal financial integrity during the time of the rule.
