The narcotics control division is preparing a summary for inclusion of drug prevention and awareness topics in syllabus of educational institutions at all academic levels.

The summary is being prepared for all provincial chief secretaries who would issue directions to concerned quarters for the purpose.

Sources at the narcotics control division (NCD) on Sunday said this step would be a milestone in creating awareness among the youth particularly of an early stage.

The sources said the NCD has executed and is executing a number of projects for creating awareness in the public under which it encourages NGOs, civil society organisations and sport associations to pay attention to create awareness especially in youth by arranging healthy alternative activities.

These activities include sports competitions, inter-college quiz programmes, poster and painting competitions, speech contests, tableaus, musical concerts, puppet shows, study tours and anti-drug lectures.

They said the electronic media had also been used against drug abuse through drama serial, telefilms, talk shows, musical programmes and anti-drug ads.

A total of 1,464 activities were carried out during four years of the project life, the sources added. They said Lahore had been selected as first model drug free city to ensure that Lahore may become free of drugs from all aspects.

The project has been launched for awareness and community mobilizations against drugs as a total of 2,552 activities have been carried out including walks, lectures, seminar, dramas and stage shows.
