Pomi Butt and nine others accused of launching a stone-pelting attack on Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI’s) ‘Azadi’ marchers in Gujranwala, were granted bail by a local court on Saturday.
Police produced the alleged Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz workers before judicial magistrate Rana Shehryar amid strict security. During the hearing, police pleaded the court to hand over all the accused to police on 14 days remand.
The lawyers of the accused argued that the sections under which the cases were registered against the accused were bail-able and they requested the court to grant the bails to them.
The court released all the accused on bail against Rs 100,000 security bond each.
On Friday, Pomi Butt surrendered himself to police apparently on PTI’s pressure.
Butt, who is a younger brother of PML-N’s Gujranwala MPA Imran Khalid Butt, has been alleged of inciting PML-N workers into attacking ‘Azadi’ march participants with stones.
Butt, who was locked up in Sabzi Mandi Police Station, has denied involvement in the attack. Speaking to a private TV channel, Butt said that contrary to media reports, he had not absconded.
