The Federal Bureau of Revenue (FBR) has so far issued notices requiring filing of return to 117,000 potential taxpayers during last financial year aimed at bringing them to tax net.
In response to these notices, 14,182 persons have filed returns up to May 2014. According to data issued by FBR here on Sunday, provisional assessments in cases where the person did not respond to notice have been framed in more than 22,296 cases.
A tax demand of Rs 8,222 million has been raised in such cases, the FBR said, adding tax of Rs 139 million have been paid with return and Rs 110 million have been collected out of demand created.
The proceedings in remaining 80,318 cases was in the process, it added. As per details, the FBR has launched an initiative to bring persons who are liable to pay income tax in the tax net and for this purpose data is being collected regarding persons’ purchasing real estate property in posh areas, expensive motor vehicles, incurring heavy utility bills and school fees or engaged in taxable business activities.
