Rain-related incidents leave 18 dead in Peshawar

Death toll has reached 18 while more than 50 people have been injured in stormy rains in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s capital on Saturday.

Following the rain-related deaths and injuries, Prime Minister Mian Nawaz Sharif ordered monetary compensation for the human casualties caused by the deadly downpour in and around Peshawar.

He had also directed Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PMDA) to jump-start relief efforts.

Some 50 persons sustained injuries in separate incidents of collapsing of roofs and walls of the houses in various areas of the city.

Rescue activities were underway, while the injured persons were rushed to Lady Reading Hospital. The rescue sources said that many wounded persons were in critical condition.

Heavy downpour with thunder storm uprooted trees and electricity polls causing disruption in the power supply to many areas of the city for several hours.

According to PESCO sources, as many as 30 feeders were also tripped due to the heavy rain.
