Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT) Chairman Dr Tahirul Qadri alleged that at least 40 to 50 people were martyred in the massacre sparked by Punjab government on June 17 but the policemen whisked away 30 to 40 bodies.

Addressing a press conference Friday, Qadri said that the bodies were later delivered to the bereaved families, who were browbeaten by police to silently accept them, saying these people were killed in roadside accidents.

Questioning how the police can continue a sanguinary operation for at least 14 hours without the consent of the chief minister, Qadri said that PAT’s ‘Inqilab’ march demands qisas (blood money) for the party’s workers martyred on June 17.

“We demand accountability in this regard, through the Constitution and through the law,” he added.

“State terrorism and repression has been taken to its pinnacle whereas the Constitution entitles everyone to live peacefully. So where is the Constitution?” questioned Qadri.

Questioning the constitutional validity of the Punjab government’s behaviour, Qadri said that the registration of an FIR is a right of the bereaved families of PAT workers.

The PAT chief added that the people of Pakistan seek revenge of their economic murder, adding, “We want the implementation of the rights of the poor.”

He asserted that the ‘Inqilab’ march’s successful progression bears testimony that the people have spurned the prevalent system.
