Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) leader and former Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) president Aitzaz Ahsan Thursday said that judges should abstain from handing down rulings on political issues.
In an interview with a private TV channel, Ahsan said that no demand could be declared unconstitutional, however an act or procedure to implement it could fall in the category of being called so.
“Demands for prime minister’s resignation echo every other day in the National Assembly hall,” he noted, adding that the premier and Punjab chief minister had to face a demand 10 times to step down on the Model Town issue.
Ahsan said a march or a protest could not be termed unconstitutional if it was taken out peacefully while the law was silent in case of any difficulty that the people might have to face in its consequence. He further said that the venue of the proposed sit-ins falls out of the jurisdiction of Lahore High Court (LHC).
Thats the legal position. If judges start issuing politcal degrees they would loose their credibility. suppose if shariffs go and someone comes what would be their position. If you probe the past history of these judges you would know they are PMNL nominees.
