CM counts funds for uplift of backward rural areas

Sindh Chief Minister (CM) Syed Qaim Ali Shah said his government was implementing different development schemes in Mirpurkhas division with preliminary cost of Rs 28,884.638 million and allocated Rs 2,262 million only for ongoing district development schemes in current financial year to bring the backward areas of this division up to the level of developed areas.

He further announced a development package for Mirpurkhas worth Rs 1 billion and directed officers concerned to initiate physical work at least for the installation of 200 solar-based reverse osmosis plants out of 750 designed for district Tharparkar for which Rs 1,500 million had already been released.

The CM asked the district development committee consisting of deputy commissioner, MNAs and MPAs of all the districts concerned to identify and submit their new development schemes to Sindh government without further delay so that current allocation against new schemes could be made available at earliest.

He directed this while presiding over a meeting and video conference with the public representatives and officers of departments of Mirpurkhas division to review the progress of developments in their areas held at CM House on Friday.

Sindh Chief Secretary (CS) Sajjad Saleem Hotiyana, Additional CS Development Mohammad Wasim, Secretary to CM Alamdin Bulo, Secretary Finance Sohail Rajput, Secretary Irrigation Babar Afandi, Secretary Works and Services Qazi Shahid Parvez, Secretary Planning and Development Rehana Memon, Secretary Public Health Sajad Abbasi and other officers attended.

He said his government was giving top priority to laying down the heavy infrastructure at district Tharparkar to put it on the development track, which was evident from the fact that district Tharparkar was getting the highest share of district ADP worth Rs 2 billion after share of the Karachi which stood as Rs 3 billion.

He said in addition to district development fund as many as Rs 19,534.970 million were being spent on different development schemes in district Tharparkar and Rs 5,835.344 million in Mirpurkhas district. Similarly, Rs 3,514.324 million were being spent on various specific district, provincial, federal funded, more than one district and Sindh-based development schemes at district Umerkot, he added.
