Addressing a charged mass gathering at Lahore’s Faisal Chowk at 7.45pm on the day of his Azadi March (Aug 14), Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan repeated his call for Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif’s resignation, making it clear that he won’t settle for anything less than an interim ‘non-political government’ to hold fresh elections in the country.

Addressing his supporters, Khan said that he was setting out to throw Sharif out of power “to pave the way for true democracy as the current system was nothing less than a monarchy”.

“Mian Sahib, I’m coming to Islamabad,” Khan said amidst loud cheers and sloganeering by the crowd.

The PTI chief also admitted that he had hadn’t been able to visit the people of Sindh and Balochistan because he was “busy fighting a battle in Punjab”, but assured them that he would be spending more time with them “after coming into power once his party sweeps elections across the country”.

The PTI chief also assured the people that his children and relatives won’t be imposed on the people.

“I’ve won several fetes for Pakistani cricket and now I’m going to lead this nation to a historic victory over a corrupted system,” he said.

The PTI caravan is moving at a snail’s pace and is it is highly unlikely that the Azadi March will reach their destination, Islamabad, before daybreak.
