Former prime minister Yusuf Raza Gilani has blamed the federal government for the political turmoil in Pakistan, saying that if he were the prime minister he would have welcomed the long marches of Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT) and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) to Islamabad.

Gilani reportedly said that Pakistan People’s Party (PPP)’s government had shown patience during the long march of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), adding that it was he (Gilani) and not General (r) Ashfaque Pervez Kayani who restored judiciary.

He expressed concerns that the incumbent rulers would lose the government due to their own mistakes. The former PM stated that protests and rallies cannot topple a government, advising PM Nawaz Sharif to keep his cool while taking decisions.

He suggested that the PM should strengthen the cabinet and keep away from the advisors who give him wrong advices.

The former premier said that calling the military in Islamabad under Article 245 of Constitution is unjustified, adding that he would have advised the government to impose Article 245 in the capital only if the situation went out of control.
