The Karachi Election Tribunal on Monday declared the election of Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N) Federal Minister of Industries and Production Ghulam Murtaza Jatoi from NA-211 in Naushero Feroz as invalid for possessing a fake degree.

The tribunal announced that Pakistan People’s Party candidate Zulfiqar Behen being runner-up was lawful winner.

The election of PML-N candidate was challenged by Zulfiqar who accused PML-N candidate of possessing a fake graduate degree and rigging polls. He said Jatoi was not sagacious, righteous, non-profligate, honest and Ameen as per contemplation of Article 62 of the Constitution and Section 99 of the Peoples Representative Act as he falsely claimed that he was a graduate.

The PPP candidate alleged that Jatoi also did not disclose his assets and liabilities. The PPP candidate asked the tribunal to declare the election of the returned candidate as void on account of his disqualification. However, the PML-N candidate denied the allegations about his degree. He ruled out claims that he did not disclose his assets and was a tax defaulter.

The tribunal headed by a former judge of Sindh High Court Dr Zafar Ahmed Khan Sherwani in view of testimonies and affidavits of witness declared the election of PML-N void and Zulifqar Behen a successful candidate.

  1. PPP Murdabad. In their tenure poverty, inflation, economy, and law and order went down the drain. Ten thousand people killed in Karachi due to Zardari's policy of reconciliation with MQM. Allah's justice awaits them.
