Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) Chief Coordinator Siddiqul Farooq said Sunday that Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan has invited fatal threat to his own and the Sharif family’s lives by stating if anything happens to him (Khan), Sharif family would be responsible.
Terming Khan’s statement “irresponsible”, Farooq said the government should immediately take Khan into protective custody to preempt possible threat to his life.
“Khan’s psychiatric treatment has become essential, especially in his personal interest,” Farooq reportedly said.
He said Khan’s statement has made him vulnerable. Anti-state elements may make fatal attempts on Khan’s life, or he could face a fatal accident while rivals and enemies of the Sharif family may also cause irreparable loss to him, Farooq said.
“If any of these possibilities materialise, why should the Sharif family be held responsible?” he questioned, adding that the lives of the Sharif family should not be exposed to threat in case of such an eventuality.
Referring to Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT) Chairman Tahirul Qadri’s instigating statements and resultant martyrdom of three policemen, he said that the possible results of Khan’s “furious and thoughtless statements” can be dire. He said it is very unfortunate that Khan has “become junior Tahirul Qadri”.
To a question Farooq said that a member of Khan’s family has disclosed that Khan is suffering from a psychiatric disease, adding that “it has addled Khan’s decision-making power and therefore he has to take frequent U-turns”.
To a question about Khan’s rigging allegations, Farooq said that Khan should read the final evaluation report submitted to him by a three-member evaluation committee comprising PTI’s Tasneem Noorani, Ahmed Awais and Yaqoob Azhar which has rejected Khan’s allegations and attributed PTI’s election failures to the party’s election strategy, decision making and polling arrangements.
Responding to another question, Farooq said that Sheikh Rashid Ahmed is giving negative advice to Khan to avenging his disgrace and insult in the past at Khan’s hands. To yet another question, the PML-N leader said that the government will not stop peaceful march but no one will be spared if he takes the law in his hands.
He said it is time to make politics in Pakistan subservient to the constitution and law and the existing negative culture should be reformed in the interest of the state and its people.
