Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) Chairman Sirajul Haq Sunday warned that military could intervene if the ongoing tensions between the government and PTI chief Imran Khan while denying allegations that he conveyed Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI)’s conditions to Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif.

At an interview at Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) House Haq said, “We have a political history that whenever political forces preferred confrontation, the third party intervened. Martial law was imposed and army generals took over.”

He said that the army has not made any promises to stay aloof from politics and military intervention cannot be ruled out if political leaders do not find a solution to their differences through dialogue.

He avoided offering any comments on the PM’s remarks about recounting in ten constituencies and also refused to talk about Khan’s denial of giving him any such proposal.

He said he had prepared his own formula to end the current political crisis in the country on the basis of his discussions with the (PTI) leadership and later conveyed the formula to Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and the government’s team, adding that he has not conveyed any conditions of PTI to the PM.

He said federal ministers Pervez Rashid and Saad Rafiq conveyed the government’s response to him at a meeting in Islamabad on Saturday, adding that he shared the response with the PTI leaders.

“I would go further after the two sides show some willingness to agree to the formula,” he said and refused to divulge details of the formula.

The JI chief also said he has also been in contact with other political leaders, including Pakistan People’s Party Co-Chairman Asif Ali Zardari to save the country from instability.
