Model Town tribunal finalises enquiry report

The one-man tribunal set up to probe the Model Town incident officially handed over its enquiry report to the Punjab government on Saturday.

The report was received by the Punjab home secretary on behalf of the Punjab government at the Lahore High Court.

The tribunal prepared its report after examining oral and documentary statements/reports from key government officials, police officers, eye witnesses and others including former law minister Rana Sanaullah and former Punjab principal secretary to chief minister Dr Tauqir.

The one-man tribunal comprising Justice Ali Baqar Najfi was formed under Section 3 of the Punjab Tribunals of Inquiry Ordinance, 1969 by Lahore High Court Chief Justice Khawaja Imtiaz Ahmad on request of the Punjab government.

The tribunal was tasked for making an enquiry and to ascertain facts and circumstance of the incident at Minhajul Quran Academy and Secretariat in Model Town on June 17. The tribunal started its proceedings on June 18 and now it had finalised its findings and handed over its report to the government.
