Five arrested for impersonating Presidency staff

Capital police has busted a five-member gang that was impersonating Aiwan-e-Sadar staff and minting money from people by enticing them with job offers in Police and other government departments, besides giving away fraudulent contracts of various projects.

According to a police spokesman, a resident of Sector G-7/2 lodged a report with Margalla Police Station about five people who were using a vehicle bearing an official number plate and pretending to be staff members of Aiwan-e-Sadar. He alleged that they took Rs 8.6 million from people on the pretext of providing jobs and contracts of various projects.

Following the complaint, a police team raided a house in Sector G-9/3 and nabbed the five suspects.

The police also recovered two vehicles with official number plates, fake departmental cards and bogus letters issued to the police for induction in the Police Department. For further investigation, a physical remand has been obtained from the court concerned.

Meanwhile, Secretariat police arrested a person accused of pressuring Railway Ministry officials while pretending to be a member of provincial assembly (MPA).

In a separate incident, Sihala and Koral police have arrested six people for their alleged involvement in bootlegging, street crimes and robberies. They also recovered 315 alcohol bottles and weapons from their possession, a police spokesman said.
