PTI, PAT paving way for martial law: Azad

Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) former president Yaseen Azad expressed concern over ongoing tense political situation in the country and called upon Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and Pakistan Awami Tehreek to resolve the political controversies through dialogue.

Yaseen Azad was taking to media men at the Supreme Courts Karachi Registry. He said PTI chairman Imran Khan and PAT head Tahirul Qadri were paving way for a martial law in the country. Political parties enjoyed constitutional right to stage protest demonstrations to get their demands met but they should shun taking law into their hands, he commented.

If military intervened and democratic system was overtaken, the country had to bear irreparable loss, he said, adding that legal fraternity would resist any move to derail democratic system and play its role to strengthen it.

Yaseen said for the first time in the history of the country an elected government completed its tenure and handed over the reins of power to other democratic government. He suggested that democratic system should be allowed to flourish and the political parties should help strengthen it.

He said that 14th August is celebrated with great zeal and zest across the country. Since the birth of Pakistan, the country had never witnessed such a situation on the eve of 14th August, he added. No any political party in the past had used the day for its political gains, he said and urged the PTI to review the date of the Azadi March against what it called a massive rigging in the general elections 2013.

He said that parliament was right place to resolve the political controversies. He requested the PTI and the PAT to engage in political dialogue with government instead of plunging the country into deep crisis.

Qazi Abdul Majeed member SCBA, Salahudin Gandapor, member Sindh Bar Council, and Mustafa Lakhani former president Sindh High Court Bar Association were also present.
