The late Majid Nizami had dedicated his life for the sacred mission to protect the ideology of Pakistan, liberate Indian-occupied Kashmir and continue the nuclear programme of Pakistan. The best way to pay tribute to this legend is by following what he had been preaching and practicing.
This was said by various speakers who addressed a condolence reference arranged for late Nawai Waqt chief editor Majid Nizami at Aiwan-e-Iqbal Complex on Thursday.
The reference was hosted by Aiwan-e-Iqbal Chairman and Pakistan Today Editor Arif Nizami while senior journalist Mujeebur Rehman Shami was the chief guest.
Khabarain Group chief executive Zia Shahid, Mumtaz Tahir, Ata Rehman, Irshad Ahmad Arif, Salman Ghani, Naveed Chaudhry, Bashir Riaz, Rizwan Ashraf, Chaudhry Ghulam Hussain, Ashraf Sharif, Sajad Bukhari, Rehmat Ali Razi, Chaudhry Hakim Ali, labour leader Khurseed Ahmad and others also attended the reference.
Chief guest Mujeebur Rehman Shami said that Majid Nizami was like an elder and at the same time the best editor of his time who knew how to keep a balance between the duties of an editor and owner of a newspaper.
He further said that the media should stand united for the protection of democracy. He said that elements in government or in opposition, who are against democracy, should be condemned and the media should stand against them.
“Supremacy of the constitution will ensure the progress of Pakistan and this was Majid Nizami’s mission,” he added.
Arif Nizami said that Majid Nizami was like a teacher to him as he was the one who taught him journalism according to the standards of his late father, Hameed Nizami. He said that Majid Nizami not only set standards in journalism but also bred journalism in the younger generation.
Zia Shahid said that Majid Nizami was undoubtedly the best editor this nation has seen till date. He said that Nizami was the one who gave strength to democracy by blooming large number of flowers in the garden of journalism. He further said that Nizami had set high standards of patriotism and laid the foundation of genuine journalism.
Mumtaz Tahir said that Majeed Nizami was the guardian of the ideology of Pakistan, adding that the transfer of the spirit of the ideology of Pakistan to new generation is one of the major milestones Nizami accomplished.
Ata Rehman said that Majid Nizami is not only famous in Pakistan but also among the Muslims of India and they think of him as their representative. He said that no editor of such calibre can be found among Muslims.
Irshad Ahmad Arif said that Majid Nizami had raised the voice of truth in front of every ruler. He said that Nizami also taught people to be brave enough to raise the voice of truth, adding that Nizami had made protection of the ideology of Pakistan his mission in journalism. Whenever any voice will be raised against dictatorship it will remind us of Majid Nizami, he added.
Naveed Chaudhry said that no one can fill the space left by Majid Nizami.
