All set for celebrating I Day amid political turmoil

Preparations for celebrating the Independence Day on 14th August have started to gain momentum amid predictions of political turmoil that has already set in motion in Karachi and all over the country.

Stalls, stocked with national flags, buntings, badges, flag pins, stickers and clothes depicting patriotic symbols, have been set up in large number in markets, streets and at roundabouts in the city.

This occasion is not only celebrated in Pakistan but all over the world. The Pakistanis abroad gather at different places and attend ceremonies to celebrate the Independence Day.

In Karachi, the occasion is scheduled to be started with 21 gun salute early in the morning followed by a grand gathering at the mausoleum of Quaid-e-Azam Muhammed Ali Jinnah, the founder of Pakistan.

This gathering, organised by city administration, would be attended by Sindh cabinet members including chief minister and governor. Where national flag would be hoisted, pigeons would be set free in the air, students would present tableaus and national songs then they would be given Independence Day gifts. Singers would also sing national songs at the occasion.

Besides, all the Sindh government buildings, including Sindh Assembly and Sindh Secretariat would be decorated with alighted lamps.

A number of events would be held in other parts of the city as well. Specially, all the schools would celebrate the day by organising special events in this regard.

Children dress up patriotically, make-draw face paintings, special dishes are cooked at homes and youth throng Seaview, the most favourite spot for them on this day, but this time they won’t even be able to get near that area.

Men usually wear white kurtas and women white clothes with green dupattas, some young men prefer to wear T-shirts depicting flags etc or tie a flag around their chest while riding un-silencered motorbikes. Special programs are on aired. People adore their vehicles, houses, offices and schools with buntings and flags.
