- State Minister Ibrahim says 33 degrees out of 3,979 have been verified, cites non-availability of funds for slow process
- Says curriculum of all FDE schools is upgraded and uniform
Minister of State for Capital Administration and Development Division (CADD) Usman Ibrahim on Friday informed the National Assembly (NA) that a committee has been formed to verify within two months degrees of teachers working under Federal Directorate of Education (FDE).
During Question Hour in the Lower House, the minister said that the verification process had already started and so far degrees of 33 teachers out of 3,979 had been verified.
“Verification process is taking time due to non-availability of funds,” he added.
He said that standard of education in federal government-run schools has improved due to the government’s efforts.
The minister said that Area Education Officers (AEOs) are playing an important role in monitoring the academic activities of the schools located in Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT).
“AEOs are also helping the FDE on administrative issues of the schools. Annual results of the schools are being monitored and analysed,” he said, adding that reasons for poor results are being identified and efforts are being made to improve the results. Schools showing good results are being appreciated, he said.
The state minister said that the FDE conducted Centralized Annual Examination for Class 5 and middle standard scholarship exam, adding that scholarships have been awarded to students on merit on the basis of results of these exams.
He said that the directors visit the educational institutions to check the routine activities, core competencies of teachers and students, administration and schools record, among other things.
“Annual sports and literary competitions are held in schools which encourage students to participate in co-curricular activities.”
Ibrahim said that thousands of teaching and non-teaching staff have been trained and academic councils are working in educational institutions to guide students.
He said that teaching staff had been given incentives through regular promotions, time scale promotion and up-gradation and the ultimate goal is to improve standard of education.
Ibrahim said that teachers are encouraged to improve their academic and professional qualifications.
UNIFROM EDUCATION ACROSS ISLAMABAD:
The minister said all educational institutions under FDE have been re-designated as IslamabadModelSchools/ Colleges in order to have uniform education system in Islamabad.
Ibrahim said that all the institutions had been affiliated with Quaid-e-AzamUniversity, Islamabad at Degree level.
The minister said that National Curriculum 2006 has been implemented at all levels in schools under the FDE.
“The new curriculum is designed according to latest knowledge and will help the students to meet the challenges of the modern world.”
School Management Committees (SMCs) are operating in the educational institutions for liaison with students’ parents, he said.
BOY SCOUTS AND GIRL GUIDES:
To another question, he said that Boy Scouts and Girls Guides programmes are already functioning in all the educational institutions under FDE.
He said that Boy Scouts are involved in various social activities and community development progress under the guidance of Islamabad Boy Scouts Association (IBSA).
Ibrahim said that various activities are carried out under Girls Guides Programme in educational institutions of Islamabad.
MORE BUSES FOR STUDENTS:
Replying to another question, the minister said that at present 139 buses are available in educational institutions under FDE while 98 more buses are required.
He said that it is a fact that a number of government educational institutions in Islamabad have no transport facility and as per policy students are granted admission in institutions close to their residence.
The minister said that a PC-I for purchase of 20 coasters with the cost of Rs 59.755 million through Prime Minister’s Islamabad Development Package has been approved but the same could not be materialised due to financial constraints.
