Supporters of Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT), armed with rocks and clubs, gathered in large number outside PAT chief Dr Tahirul Qadri’s residence and Minhajul Quran secretariat in Model Town area of Lahore, a private news channel reported on Thursday.
More than 300 PAT supporters, including women have set up camps around Qadri’s residence while the PAT’s youth wing roamed around the area wearing protective helmets and carrying clubs and shields.
Workers were reported to have warned the Punjab government of repercussions if Dr. Qadri is detained.
The development came after Qadri was booked in a case for allegedly inciting public to violence and attacking policemen and police set up pickets on roads leading to the party leader’s residence and MuQ secretariat on Wednesday.
A crackdown on PAT leaders and workers continues in parts of Punjab in the run-up to August 10’s ‘Youm-e-Shuhda’ announced by the party.
According to PAT sources, more than 100 party activists have been arrested late on Wednesday in a full-scale crackdown in various cities of Punjab including Gujranwala, Muzaffargarh and Burewala.
Meanwhile, Qadri has warned that‘Youm-e-Shuhada’ would turn into ‘Youm-i-Inqilaab’ if the crackdown against his party workers continues adding that the whole country would turn into a battleground for revolution if the state administration detains him.
Speaking to media representatives at his residence on Wednesday, the PAT chief said that the party’s line of action would be announced after a scheduled meeting of allied parties on Thursday (today).
