The dangerous practice of one-wheeling by bikers is continuing on busy roads of twin cities of Islamabad and Rawalpindi, putting riders’ lives at risk.
Young motorcyclists, mostly without helmets, could be seen one-wheeling on roads of twin cities including Murree Road, Kashmir Highways, 9th Avenue, 7th Avenue, Committee Chowk, Nawaz Sharif Park Road and Islamabad Expressway.
Suleman, a car driver, said that youngsters not only endangered their own lives but also posed a serious threat to others by indulging in one-wheeling. He said that these young one-wheelers were often seen performing dangerous stunts which created problems for him during driving.
Some of these motorcyclists were arrested from different areas of the city for one-wheeling, but this trend was increasing every day, he said.
More than 100 youngsters were reportedly injured in twin cities while one-wheeling and speeding on motorbikes during Eidul Fitr holidays.
A group of people urged the authorities to adopt effective measures to counter one-wheeling.
An official of Islamabad Traffic Police said that ITP had held a number of motorbikes due to one-wheeling and bike stunts and challan tickets were also being issued to the violators.
The official, however, added that it was difficult for the ITP personals to end on-wheeling in capital as bikers mostly succeed to dodge them. It was not possible to follow every biker, he added. He said that ITP was also carrying awareness campaign to stop these activities.
