A group exhibition of latest paintings by four artists Fauzia Minallah, Muniba Zuberi, Sajida Hussain and Zohra Amarta Shah will open today at Gallery 6.
The group show titled “Four Fabulous Fascination” comprises the latest paintings by these Islamabad based female painters to be continued till August 17 including Sundays.
Talking about her art, the painter Fauzia Minallah said, “For me art is not only man made found in galleries and museums, but also out there in nature. In my series “Meditative Strokes” I preserve the beauty of the abundant trees that add a riot of colours to Islamabad. These trees are the soul of Islamabad and it is painful to see them vanishing in the ongoing mega development projects. As an activist, I can protest against the destruction of the green spaces but as painter, I can at least preserve this beauty.”
The other artist, Mubina Zuberi, while describing her work told, my paintings whether they are abstracts or figurative are always about interaction of women with their environment and society and how they react to the social pressures in which they compromise and survive.
Artist Sajida Hussain said that my paintings can be categorized in the school of impressionistic cubical activity, which is based on figuration. I maintain the integration in formal form and void surface through using soft value and light, which creates an impact of fantasy.
Zohra Amarta Shah, another painter of this group show said, my current work depicts issue of child abuse, a common occurrence in our society. It reflects abusers and/or children who have suffered, are wounded, have remained silent or gone unheard and are scarred, both physically and emotionally.
My paintings are a form of social protest, creating public awareness about the issue that might lead to some prevention, as at present, there is no or very limited discussion on this taboo topic, she remarked
