The Sindh anti-encroachment police Thursday held a protest demonstration outside the Karachi Press Club for immediate release of three-month salaries and regularisation of their jobs in police department.
They chanted slogans against provincial authorities for not releasing their salaries for the last three months and said that 470 male constables and 20 female constables were performing their duties in the anti-encroachment cell.
They demanded of Sindh Chief Minister Qaim Ali Shah to immediately release their three-month salary and regularise them in police department so that they could take a sigh of relief in high price-hike era.
Presenting their demands, a woman constable Soniya, who was leading the protesters, said they wanted provincial authorities to pay their salaries, give equal status to anti-encroachment martyrs as police and regularise them in Sindh police department, but no one was paying heed towards their issues which had forced them to stage protest and put forward their demands in front of media.
She said they had been performing duties in Karachi police stations during the last six months and their three men were killed and two other sustained injuries during recent spate of violence.
SSP Anti-Encroachment Arif Aziz, who successfully negotiated with the protestors, told media that the protesters had agreed to postpone their protest till August 13 and he had conveyed their demands to Senior Member Board of Revenue Malik Israr Hussain.
The senior member Board of Revenue has summoned the secretary revenue in Hyderabad to resolve the issue and hopefully the matter would be settled till next week, he said, adding the protesting policemen were hired on contractual basis and their salaries were stopped after their contract period expired.
He said the senior member Board of Revenue would request the chief minister to regularise these policemen and issue their salaries.
