Deeming political forces duty-bound to respect people’s mandate, Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif on Wednesday said that country’s problems could only be resolved through dialogue and democracy.

In a meeting with a Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) delegation comprising Liaquat Baloch and Mian Aslam led by their chief Sirajul Haq at the Prime Minister’s House, Sharif said that the PML-N respected the mandate of other parties and would continue to do so in future as well. He said that instead of hatred and confrontation, the core of politics should be based on mutual respect and democratic principles.

The prime minister thanked Haq and members of his delegation for coming to the PM House and lauded their reconciliatory efforts in the current political situation.

The JI chief presented Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Imran Khan’s demands to the prime minister to end the political stalemate in the country. The prime minister assured Haq that he will consider the suggestions.

Haq lauded the democratic role of Sharif, who had strengthened the tradition of accepting the mandate of different political parties in the provinces. He also appreciated the courageous stand taken by the prime minister on the issue of Palestine.

During the meeting, the prime minister also decided to declare August 17 as “Youm-e-Palestine”.
