MQM concerned over reports of police action against PAT

Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) has voiced concerns over electronic media reports that Punjab police are constituting raid parties for large-scale arrests of activists and leaders of Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT), including PAT Chairman Dr Tahirul Qadri.

In a telephonic conversation with PAT senior leader Dr Raheeq Abbasi, MQM Coordination Committee Senior Deputy Convener Nadeem Nusrat said this potential move by the Punjab government would be nothing but political vengeance, adding the police crackdown stands in violation of human rights.

Nusrat conveyed MQM Chairman Altaf Hussain’s concern over the reports of arrests of PAT leaders and workers.

Requesting the MQM leader for his good wishes, Abbasi asserted, “PAT’s workers, even mothers, sisters and elderly people, are quite spirited and filled with great passion,” adding that PAT and its supporters can never be cowed by such “mean measures”.

Abbasi said PAT’s strategy for every coming day, including Martyrs’ Day scheduled for August 10, is being figured out and will soon be produced before the people.
