*Petition filed in LHC seeks treason case against Imran, Qureshi
Lahore High Court (LHC) on Monday issued notices to Punjab inspector general of police (IG) and other parties after a petition was filed pleading the court to order registration of a treason case against Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf leaders Imran Khan and Shah Mehmood Qureshi.
Justice Aalia Neelum heard the case in the LHC on Monday. The petition said that PTI leaders Imran Khan and Shah Mehmood Qureshi are frequently issuing statements against the judiciary which is sparking a situation of anarchy in the country. The two PTI leaders have also refused to accept the judicial commission formed to investigate the Model Town Incident, the plea further said.
The petitioner called the statements of the PTI leaders equal to treason. He added that a plea was filed in the lower court in this respect but it was rejected, therefore, the LHC should give orders to file the case, the plea said.
The court issued notices to the parties and asked for answers within four weeks.
