Important political leaders on Tuesday agreed that democracy, constitution and parliament must remain supreme.

The consensus emerged during a consultative meeting of the political leaders with Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif held to discuss the political situation of the country in wake of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s announcement to lead a ‘million-man’ Azadi March to the federal capital on Independence Day.

It was decided that no unconstitutional or unlawful action by anyone will be supported.

The meeting participants included Leader of the Opposition Khursheed Shah, Jamiat Ulema Islam-Fazl leader Fazlur Rehman, head of Qaumi Watan Party Aftab Ahmad Khan Sherpao and leader of the Pakhtunkhwa Milli Awami Party Mahmood Khan Achakzai. Federal Ministers Ishaq Dar, Information Minister Pervaiz Rashid and Khawaja Saad Rafique also attended the meeting.

Rashid said the meeting decided that the government and the opposition would play their role in strengthening the democratic system. He added that all issues should be resolved through consensus.
