The Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) staged a protest on Monday against arrest of workers in Karachi.
The MQM rabita committee said the operation against criminals was started to comfort the citizens of Karachi but it had rather started disturbing them.
The protest against arrests and illegal raids on MQM workers’ houses was staged outside the Karachi Press Club. The protesters said that innocent party workers were being arrested and many of then had gone missing. They also alleged that MQM workers were being persecuted for political reasons and several had been murdered extra-judicially.
During a press conference on this occasion, MQM senior leader from Hyderabad Kunwar Naved Jameel said the MQM had repeatedly expressed its concerns over the transparency of Karachi operation but the ‘impartial monitoring committee’ announced by the prime minister had not yet been established.
He said senior leaders’ neighborhoods were being raided illegally and MQM workers were being arrested.
Moreover, the coordination committee expressed its concerns over arrests of the workers saying the MQM was being impeded from playing its democratic role by arresting its workers unnecessarily and vilifying them as terrorists.
The MQM also protested in the National Assembly by staging a walkout from the session against illegal arrests of the party workers.
