- Law Minister Rana Mashhood says action against PAT chief likely in three days

The government is building a case against Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT) chief Tahirul Qadri for treason and money laundering and an action was likely within three days, said Punjab Law Minister Rana Mashhood on Monday while speaking to journalists at the Hockey Stadium in Lahore.
Mashhood said that Qadri did not have any representation in the national or provincial assemblies and thus he could not claim himself to be a representative of the citizens. He also alleged that the PAT chief travelled in bullet-proof cars which were worth millions of rupees and paid for with taxpayers’ money.
The law minister also affirmed that no one would be allowed to derail democracy on August 10.
“Law takes its course against those who take the law into their own hands. Qadri is only dancing to the tune of foreign masters to destabilise the country. He has no sympathy with his workers and wants to use them for his vested interest.”
He said Qadri had come to create chaos through his anti-state agenda. “He is neither a representative of Pakistan nor a real Muslim,” he claimed, dubbing Qadri as ‘Container Baba’ with reference to his last year’s three-day anti-government sit-in in Islamabad.
Mashhood said Qadri had exposed his agenda in his Sunday’s press conference in which he urged party workers to avenge the Model Town incident against the police.
Besides, he said, Qadri had advised his workers to bring with them the Holy Quran on August 10 which was “un-Islamic and tantamount to desecration”.
“Qadri believes in politics of corpses but we request him not to play with emotions of his workers,” the minister said, asking the people to decide about Qadri’s mental condition. He added the PML-N government believed in democracy and would continue to move in the right direction.
