Ministry of Inter-Provisional Coordination Committee on sports Monday appointed Justice (r) Sair Ali as Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) acting chairman.
The newly appointed chairman will also assume the post of PCB Election Commissioner and is tasked to hold elections for the board’s chairman according to the PCB constitution.
The latest development has ended the long-standing and frequent swapping of the PCB chairman post between Najam Sethi and Zaka Ashraf.
On July 21, the Supreme Court disposed of different cases of the PCB and ordered the prime minister, who is also PCB patron-in-chief, to appoint an ad-hoc chairman and hold elections within 30 days.
According to sources, Sethi has thrown his weight behind former PCB chairman Arif Abbasi to be elected as next chairma and also met Abbasi in Karachi.
The sources added that Sethi wants that person to become PCB chief who would endorse and uphold decisions made by him (Sethi) as chairman. According to the sources, Abbasi is most likely to accept all the terms to get elected as PCB chief.
It is worth mentioning that Sethi will remain a member of PCB Governing Board for the next three years.
