Federal Minister for Railways Khawaja Saad Rafique questioned on Friday why Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan is ready for dialogue with Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) but not prepared to hold talks with the government.

Addressing the start of celebrations of Independence Day celebrations at Allam Iqbal’s mausoleum in Lahore, Rafique said that the government would continue to persuade Khan up to the night of August 13 to hold talks instead of launching the proposed ‘million-man march’ towards Islamabad.

He said the doors of negotiation are always open in politics, adding that issues can only be resolved through a careful understanding of problems. Rafique said that the present situation calls for unity and not division.

Rafique said that the country’s progress and stability demands halting the ‘long march’ and ‘revolution’. He said that decisions concerning the destiny of nations were not made through street protests

The minister warned that anybody taking the law into his own hands on August 14 would have to bear the consequences.
