All hell broke loose upon the family of Islam Khan when they heard the news of his drowning in the sea on the second day of Eid.

The 16-year-old Islam, accompanied by seven friends decided to go to Sea View, Clifton after offering Zohr prayer, and hastily stuffing food into his mouth. He said he would be back home around sunset and have dinner with his family. Little did he know that death was waiting at the beach to engulf him.

After 5pm, when the picnickers were playing with a ball on beach, Islam went missed a ball thrown by his friend and chased after it into the sea waters. But death successfully chased him before he could chase the ball.

Islam’s friend Salman Mehmand reportedly said that a big wave rose out of nowhere and engulfed Islam.

Sultan Khan, Islam’s uncle, said that more than 100 of his relatives were mobilised across the city who restlessly enquired about Islam at about every rescue center, police station and big hospital throughout the night, but to no avail.

Islam’s body was recovered the next day in the early morning by a rescue team helicopter.

Islam’s father, who was blessed with a son two days before Eid, was so grieved over the demise of his eldest son that he did not sleep once in 48 hours.

The funeral prayer of Islam was held after Zohr prayer on the third day of Eid near his residence at Ibrahim Masjid in Korangi Crossing area, Karachi.
