Special Investigation Unit (SIU), in a crackdown in Ramazan against extortionists and target killers, arrested 33 criminals and seized heavy ammunition including cracker bombs and Kalashnikovs.
The operation was carried out under the supervision and directives of SIU SSP Farooq Awan. In the operation, 15 extortionists, three target killers and 14 street criminals were arrested.
The people arrested included three accused of an extortionist group, Hassan Mohsin, Nawabzada Kamal, Shehroz alias Sunny, who were involved in more than 30 incidents of extortion; a target killer, Mohammed Pervaiz Iqbal alias Teeli, belonging to another gang who was involved in killing of 20 people and taking extortion from traders. Other five extortionists, Qasim Khan Mehmood, Alam Khan, Syed Athar, Ghulam Tousif and Muhammed Hanif, were also arrested.
Meanwhile, accused Ali Akbar alias Ali Pani, who was involved in killing of Awami National Party Ward President Mashwar Bangash was arrested. Accused Muhammed Akber alias Rasheed, involved in murder of EOBI Assistant Director Qamaruddin Abbasi, was also arrested.
Two ball bombs, three hand grenades, Kalashnikov, 23 pistols, 150 bullets, five motorcycles and 2 kg drugs were also seized, while 12 wanted criminals were also arrested. The operation against criminals is continued.
