PM asks ministers to convince Khan into giving up ‘Azadi March’

Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has tasked Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif, Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan and Finance Minister Ishaq Dar to contact Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan regarding PTI’s protest planned for August 14.

According to sources, Nawaz met Shahbaz Sharif in Lahore to discuss PTI’s ‘Azadi March’. The Punjab CM briefed the premier about initial contacts with Khan. Nawaz also decided to task the finance and interior ministers to establish contact with the PTI chief and told them to keep him informed about any progress.

Sources added that National Assembly Opposition Leader Syed Khursheed Shah has also accelerated efforts to convince Khan to hold a meeting with Nawaz to reduce the brimming political tensions.

Nisar has already contacted Khan once and requested him to reconsider his decision of marching on Independence Day. Khan had said that he would respond after consultations with party leaders after Eid. Nisar is expected to hold talks with the PTI chief again on August 4.
