Rainy weather on Tuesday brought smiles on the faces of staff of emergency departments, who enjoyed their Eid at offices away from their loved ones rendering their professional duties.
When everyone else celebrates the day of Eidul Fitr with family at home, it was only the staff of departments relating to utility services, security etc which sacrificed their joys to facilitate others.
Policemen, traffic police officials, limited staff of hospitals, toll plaza, media, airport, railways, bus stands, sanitary workers, staff of CNG stations and petrol pumps etc were on duty on Tuesday.
“Every year a few staff members are assigned to perform duty at office and for last two years I have been doing this duty with other colleagues”, said Zahid Ali while performing duty at a toll plaza on Motorway. He said, “With the blessing of Allah, rain has made the weather pleasant.”
Dr Aqsa, one of the on-duty physicians at Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) hailing from Kashmir, said, “It is my first experience of celebrating Eid away from my family but serving humanity is my passion and it is an honour for me to serve patients on the joyous occasion.”
She said the native staff members brought food items. It was a different experience of sharing Eid greetings at hospital with colleagues and patients, she added.
Noor Bakht, a porter at Rawalpindi Railway Station, working on Eid days had two advantages, one passenger gave extra tip and secondly after Eid they took more leaves to spend time with their families.
“Other colleagues from far flung areas got the chance to visit their home town on Eid so I prefer to perform duty,” he added.
Besides official services, sweet sellers, bakeries, grocery shops, ice cream parlour, Naan shops, medical stores etc also remained opened for the convenience of general public during Eid holidays.
“Due to Eid there is a huge demand of cakes, pizza, sweets and other bakery items which also boosts our sales during three days of Eid,” said a bakery owner, Arif Khawaja.
