Popalzai celebrates Eid with Saudi Arabia

While the central moon-sighting committee will meet today to sight Eid crescent, an unofficial committee led by Mufti Shahbuddin Popalzai Peshawar’s historic Qasim Ali Mosque late on Sunday announced Eid, claiming that several testimonies had been received from the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa region.

Speaking to media representatives after the committee’s meeting, Mufti Popalzai said that they had received 48 moon sighting witnesses from parts of KP and most of them are credible so Eidul Fitr would be observed on Monday on the basis of the testified witnesses.

Apart from cantonment and government residential areas, most parts of Peshawar and the adjoining districts will be celebrating Eidul Fitr on Monday following the announcement of Mufti Popalzai.

In Bannu, the local ulema committee under Mufti Abdul Ghani also announced that they had sufficient testimonies of moon sighting to celebrate Eid on Monday.

Moreover, Eidul Fitr is being celebrated in Saudi Arabia today as the Shawal moon was reportedly sighted in the kingdom on Sunday.

Most of the Arab, European, American and Canadian Muslims celebrate the holy month of Ramazan and Eidul Fitr on the same dates as the UAE and Saudi Arabia.

Eidul Fitr marks the end of the Muslim holy fasting month of Ramazan. Determining the exact date depends on observations of the Shawal moon. The moon sighting committees in UAE and Saudi Arabia met on Sunday in their respective countries to witness the Shawal moon.

  3. One should follow the Central Ruet e hilal committee decision as following other people like Mr. Popalzai will lead to division among the masses and its not fair to spread disharmony among fellow muslim brethren.
    Its high time Ummah to unite.
