Pakistan’s High Commissioner in India Abdul Basit on Sunday expressed the hope that with the resumption of Pak-India bilateral dialogue, things would move forward in all areas as articulated by the two prime ministers in their meeting in New Delhi on May 27.
At the invitation of Jamia Masjid Delhi Shahi Imam Syed Ahmed Bukhari, Basit visited the Shahi Masjid on Saturday evening and had iftar there, stated a report from New Delhi on Sunday.
Addressing the congregation after the Maghrib prayer, the high commissioner underlined the unique spirit of Islam, which was universal and embedded in love, peace and justice for all. He said the month of Ramazan is a time for introspection and individual and collective correction for Muslims.
He conveyed his felicitations to Indian Muslims on behalf of Pakistanis and wished them Eid greetings in advance.
Talking about Pakistan-India relations, the high commissioner said that Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif was committed to normalisation of relations between the two countries on the basis of mutual respect and mutual interest. He expressed the hope that there would be progress in all areas with the resumption of bilateral dialogue.
Welcoming the high commissioner, Imam Bukhari expressed hoped for better Indo-Pak relations and commended Sharif’s visit to New Delhi, during which he also visited the Jama Masjid.
This is the first time that a high commissioner for Pakistan was invited for iftar at the Jama Masjid and also addressed the congregation.
