Ahmadi woman, two minor children killed in Gujranwala over alleged blasphemy

A woman and two children belonging to the minority Ahmadi community were killed while several others were injured when a mob torched five houses in Gujranwala over alleged blasphemy.

According to initial reports, the violence at Gujranwala’s Arafat Colony began after an Ahmadi man identified as Saqib allegedly shared a blasphemous picture on social networking website, Facebook. Angered by the alleged blasphemy, a mob led by a man identified as Ejaz gathered outside Saqib’s house and started protesting. 

Meanwhile the protesters were informed that the accused and some other Ahmadis had sought refuge in the house of a doctor, identified as Sohail. The mob raided Dr Sohail’s house in search of Saqib, when according to Ejaz, the people inside opened fire on them, injuring a man named Zakariya.

According to police sources, the angry mob then set five Ahmadi houses on fire, resulting in the deaths of 30-year-old Bashiran and two minor children — eight-month-old Hira and five-year-old Kainat, while seven others including two women were injured.

Ahmadis have been arrested in Pakistan for reading the Holy Quran, holding religious celebrations and having Quranic verses on rings or wedding cards. Four years ago, 86 Ahmadis were killed in two simultaneous attacks in Lahore.

    • No difference between you Pakistanis and those Israelis. Kill innocent people and then have the temerity to justify it using twisted logic. I'm an Ahmadi Muslim and if your version of Islam justifies the killing and inhuman slaughter of humans (regardless of what religion they belong to) then I am happy to be called a kaffir by you and your ignorant ilk. You claim to defend the honour of the Prophet (SAW) with your actions and justifications, how very ironic the very Prophet who shunned violence and brought a message of peace so mankind could live in a tolerant and harmonious societies. The very Prophet who suffered incomprehensible brutality and persecution yet ALWAYS showed mercy. Follow his example not these uneducated mullahs who you follow which are a complete disgrace to humankind let alone Islam. The wrath of God and his retribution when it comes will be swift yet people like you seem to think that it wont come.

        Slay them wherever ye find them and drive them out of the places whence they drove you out, for persecution is worse than slaughter. – 2:191

      First of all, the allrgation of posting blasphemous content is totaly falsr and baseless. Suppose that If we just assume the allrgation to be true, will you term this inhuman and barbaric act justified? If such is the case, then there will be no need of law and law enforcement agencies.
      We have law present then why these so called muslims take law in their own hands?
      I would advise them to follow the teachings of Islam if they want to be true muslims. Islam is a religion of peace, love and tolerance.
      These so called Mullahs have created their own version of Islam.

        I wouldn't get your hopes up just yet. It is not much to say that Islam is the "fastest growing religion in the U.S." when ten or twenty years ago Islam was next to nothing in the U.S. Also, according to the same U.S. Census Report declaring Islam is fast growing, most of that growth came by immigration. It seems Islam is coming to America rather than America going to Islam.

        The second fastest growing religion in the U.S. is Mormonism. Mormonism is an American-born religion. That means the growth of Mormonism in the U.S. by conversion is higher than the growth of Islam in the U.S. by conversion.

        Perhaps Allah is spreading Mormonism by his will.

  8. I failed to understand this news… who ever written this news was not honest to his profession, PT must take notice of such journalist who intentionally misinterpreting the event to flame the fire. The misleading heading and last paragraph is nothing but to trigger fire in society.

    The heading says "killed over alleged blasphemy". The second and third paragraph says that Ahmadi person had posted something objectionable to Muslim neighborhood. When neighbors gathered to protest he fired on the crowed?? I have full sympathy to died ones regardless their religious belief, but we should evaluate the other angle too, instead of apologies to neighbors they fired on them??

    • The protection of life is a vital and important right of a Pakistani Citizen. If the whole neighborhood is after the person to lynch, than he has the right to defend himself or herself. In Pakistan, he would have died before reaching Police Station for Prosecution.
      Answer this: What would you do if you were accuse of this crime an a lynching MOB is out Like KKK to lynch you from a nearest tree for punishment without due process of the law?
