Citizens in most parts of the mega city had to spend yet another sleepless night on Friday as the city suffered a second major power breakdown within 24 hours.

Earlier, the port city had plunged into darkness a little after midnight on Thursday owing to multiple grid stations of K-Electric going offline and the power supply was restored after a 12-hour-long breakdown.

Much to the dismay of the people, yet another major breakdown occurred after a light rain just after iftar on Friday night, throwing the city in pitch darkness and forcing the people to arrange their sehri in candlelight in the suffocating hot and humid weather.

The widespread outage affected Saddar, Clifton, Garden, I.I Chundrigar Road, Burns Road, JamshedTown, Jacob Lines, New Town, Railway Colony, Defence, Clifton, Qayyumabad, Sultanabad, Cantonment, Kemari, Landhi, Korangi, Malir, Quaidabad, Gulistan-e-Jauhar, North Karachi, Gulshan-e-Iqbal and several other areas of Karachi city.
