Govt reviews ‘Eid plans’ for dengue control

The district administration on Saturday, reviewed anti-dengue and larvae identification plan for Eidul Fitr vacations.

The meeting was chaired by Rawalpindi District Coordination Officer (DCO) Sajad Zafar Dal and attended by officers of the district administration and government departments.

It was decided that the officials of government departments would remain vigilant to mark all expected breeding spots and in case of any emergency, the departments concerned would initiate prompt action to overcome the situation.

The performance of all the departments with regard to larvae identification was reviewed in detail and the officers concerned gave presentations and pictorial reflections of the activities being carried out to identify larvae.

Zafar said that some larvae positive cases had drawn the attention of departments concerned and these localities had been focused by carrying out preventive activities.

He said that it is the obligation of all citizens to check their water storage tanks, refrigerator waist trays and air coolers, which could become breeding spots for larvae.

He directed officers of government departments to concentrate on practical measures and involve community heads for identification of larvae, failing which an epidemic of the disease could arise.

He told the officials to show the individual weekly performance of officials with reference to dengue control, as indicated in the standard operating procedures for each department. The water flow in Nullah Lai and other big and small nullahs of Rawalpindi was also reviewed on the occasion.

Officers of WASA, Solid Waste Management Company and Rawal Town briefed the DCO about the measures adopted to protect the lives and properties of citizens during torrential rains and floods. It was informed that a control room has been established in WASA which would work round the clock, despite Eid holidays.

On the occasion, government departments’ heads gave presentations of their activities and highlighted the salient features of their anti-dengue programs.

The Rawalpindi DCO appreciated the working and achievements of District Officer Environment who is implementing government dengue control directives in letter and spirit. He asked DO Social Welfare to associate volunteers and officials of Social Welfare Department for social mobilisation and larvae identification.
